An important summer lies ahead for Arsenal
If you were to give a verdict on Unai Emery's first season in charge of Arsenal, it would have to be one where the Spaniard could have done better and with the club missing out on a top four finish, it will ask serious questions as to what happens this summer.
That's not to say that the former PSG manager is in any immediate danger of facing the sack, as the questions are more towards just which players he will look to purchase and more importantly with the shoestring budget that he supposedly has.
That's because if the rumours are to be believed, Emery has been promised just £40m to spend in this current transfer window and with the market being as it is, that will not get you too much in the way of talent.
While with such small spending power being afforded to the 47-year-old, it looks as if Arsenal may well be in the midst of a sell to buy era and one that could see some of their biggest names leave North London in order to balance the books.
However, the Gunners do seem to be in a state of diminishing returns over the past few years and when looking at potential players that they could not only sell but also command a decent amount of revenue for, the list is not all that long.
At the same time, that's not to say there are no assets that could discover new pastures and one of the players that could be considered for sale is that of Mesut Ozil, with the 30-year-old German international's future currently in doubt.
Much has been made of Ozil's undoubted talents and on his day, he can torment even the tightest of defences. Unfortunately, those days have been all too few and far between under Unai Emery, with bad form and injuries blighting the former Real Madrid midfielder.
This means his first team place is no longer a guarantee and with Ozil not getting any younger, now might be the time to cash in and rejuvenate a squad that still needs three or four new signings in order to truly compete. However a club matching Ozil's current wage would be a gamble, the same as an online casino can offer winnings for some.
While if it is not the departure of one former Bundesliga player, it could be that of another and Arsenal fans will weigh up the dilemma of selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in order to bring much needed funds to the club.
If Ozil's star is fading, then Aubameyang's is still burning bright and for that reason alone, he is currently commanding interest from clubs who have large swathes of money to spend in the Chinese Super League.
Not only that, but the sale of Aubameyang would recoup more in the way of a transfer fee and that would further help Arsenal's rebuilding project. However, this has to be balanced by the fact that their best player would be sold on, something that would only weaken them in the short-term.
For that reason alone, you would imagine that their talisman will still be in Arsenal colours come August. Whether the same can be said regarding Mesut Ozil, remains to be seen and therefore don't be surprised if players are sold before new faces arrive at the Emirates this summer.
